There has been quite a lot of confusion about what is going on with Proposition 13 on the March 2020 Ballot. Hopefully, I can help clear up some confusion on this initiative for you.
Foremost, Proposition 13 at it appears on the March 2020 primary ballot, is a 15 Billion Dollar School Bond Measure. It will not affect the Proposition 13 (enacted 1978) property tax protections that many home and business owners enjoy. With that said, this is still an issue that you will want to take seriously as with any bond measure as they do increase your property taxes.
For more information on The March 2020 Prop 13 Bond Measure we recommend visiting the link below for a full overview.
While there has been heavy confusion with Prop 13 and the March ballot, the actual initiative that will affect the “actual” Proposition 13 (1978) is The California Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding Initiative aka Split Role. This initiative will eliminate protections seen under Proposition 13 (1978) and will have direct impacts on everyone in California. For this reason, we’d love to invite you to our upcoming “Split Role - The Erosion of Prop 13” educational event on April 17th. Senator Patricia Bates, Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall, San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, and Tax Payer Advocate Jordan Marks will be on a panel to discuss state, local and tax implications of the upcoming initiative.
