Blu-Ray Disk Technology Moves to Paper

Greetings, NSDCAR Members!

A new storage technology which utilizes blue laser light instead of the conventional red laser is now being tested with a new material, or should I say old material: paper!

Blue laser light features a shorter wavelength, thus allowing more densely-packed data in a given space, and Sony and Toppan Printing of Japan are now experimenting with a paper-and-polymer solution which eliminates the need for fossil-fuel based plastics in manufacture of the new, higher-density disks.  Another plus of paper-based disk technology is security; the user can shred the disk, certainly the most secure of "erasing" techniques!  Look for Blu-Ray disk technologies in the marketplace soon!
